Candy for your ears?

March 10, 2010

Ear Candy, the recently released album from world renowned guitarists Robin Kessinger and Todd Hallawell, is sure to catch your ear as its title implies.

Robin is a flatpicker and Todd a fingerstyle player, but they come together on this recording with a unique sound that showcases what they each do best.

Throughout the recording they weave in and out of complex harmonies and tasteful arrangements that keep you wondering what’s around the corner. From more upbeat tunes like Russian Rag to slower selections like Sidh Beag Sidh Mor, these two masters take you on a musical journey you’ll travel again and again.

A personal favorite is Turkey Knob, a fiddle tune written by Robin’s uncle and champion fiddler, Clark Kessinger. They’ve taken a fresh look at this old time tune resulting in an arrangement that takes on a life of it’s own. After hearing it I was inspired to relearn the song and film this video.

  1. Todd Hallawell Says:

Hey Adam, Has Robin seen this? Great job! And thank you for your kind words on Ear Candy and for featuring the album so prominently on your site.

Danny will have a cow when he heres this! He always asks us WHY didn’t you play this in A where it was written? (All the licks on the fiddle don’t work for him in D). I also think it’s hilarious that you recorded this with the 1st fret capo! Eb is such a Traditional key! – There’s a secret about this I’ll share when we talk.

I’d like to talk to you about the website when you get the chance.

    Best, Todd
